Ways to Give

Signal is grateful for the global community of donors who support our mission of protecting free expression and enabling secure global communication through open source privacy technology. We build Signal for you, and we could not build Signal without you.

Signal Technology Foundation is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit home of the Signal app. Our US tax ID (EIN) is 82-4506840.

In-app giving

Signal account holders can make one-time or recurring donations within the app by going to Settings → Donate. We accept credit cards, debit cards, and a variety of other online payment options. When you give through the app, you have the option to display a special donor badge on your profile. To view your receipt for an in-app donation, go to Settings → Donate to Signal → Donation receipts.

Online giving

We make giving easy and self-service by providing a variety of payment options on our website, signal.org/donate. These include:

  • One-time or recurring gift via credit card or PayPal
  • Direct bank transfer from a US or international bank (may take up to 14 days to clear)
  • Gifts of stock
  • Cryptocurrency, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC, and others

Donor advised funds (DAFs)

Contact your DAF provider or log into your DAF website to recommend a grant to Signal Technology Foundation, tax ID number 82-4506840. Working directly with your DAF provider avoids transaction fees and preserves more of your gift's value. We also provide a DAFpay tool on our website.

Qualified charitable distribution

US taxpayers aged 70 ½ or older may be qualified to directly transfer funds from their individual retirement account (IRA) as a qualified charitable distribution (QCD). Contact your plan administrator for more details and to initiate a gift.

Employer-matching donations

You may be able to double or triple the impact of your gift through a workplace matching gift. Contact your employer's benefits team to learn more.

Legacy gift

Include a gift to Signal in your will to support privacy for generations to come. Provide the following sample language to your estate planning representative:

I give, devise, and bequeath [the sum of _____ USD (or other currency) OR _____ percent of the rest and residue of my estate] to the Signal Technology Foundation (tax identification number 82-4506840), a charitable corporation currently located at 650 Castro Street, Suite 120-223, Mountain View, CA 94041, USA, to be used for its general charitable purposes at its discretion.
